Music and Family

Hey guys! For this blog, I didn't get to interview an immediate family member but I was able to speak with a close family friend/relative who meets the age requirement for it😆 I was unsure how exactly I wanted to format this blog, and I have decided that I would just tell it as a story... Firstly, I interviewed a woman named Anna, I won't disclose her age out of respect and she grew up in the 1970s-90s.

Talking to Anna, I asked her things such as what music groups she listened to, what kind of devices would she use to play music and if her music taste has changed over the years--- Growing up, Anna talked about her 2 favorite artists, which consists of Bob Marley, and The Backstreet Boys. I personally thought that the 2 completely different styles were very interesting. In her teenage years themselves, she would always listen to the backstreet boys! Bob Marley was also someone she loved listening to, only when she wasn't listening to tbsb..

As for others who grew up listening to tbsb, Anna also thought and believed in her heart that she was going to marry Nick Carter...and clearly that did not happen. A song from the group that she would always play on repeat would be the famous, "I Want It That Way"! I even know this whole song and surely did understand her when she told me how much she'd play it... The backstreet boys would be her go to music for anything, and I mean anything. From cleaning music, party music, relaxation...She loved the backstreet boys and was ultimately their number one fan in my opinion.. I also spoke to her daughter who vividly remembers her mom using a boombox to play their music very loudly, regardless of the outside situation. lol

Bob Marley became someone she began listening as she got older, but no one would be able to top her love for the boy group...unlike the backstreet boys, she didn't listen to Marley religiously. She stated that anytime there would be a road trip and/or she wanted to have a semi-calm, quiet, day; she would pop in  a CD from Marley.  She has always loved traveling, and she said that Marley reminds her of beachy vacations. One of her fav songs by him was "One Love". I have never heard it before but of course I had to take a listen to it for myself. Then of course, she'd always play it on the boombox in their household as well.

Anna was always an avid music listener while she was growing up, and these 2 aren't even a small percentage of all the music that she would listen to:)

  1. Hey! I really like that you decided to tell this as a story rather than typing out the interview, and I wish I did the same! She seems to listen to a variety of music genres. I have several different playlists on my phone, depending on how I'm feeling. My main playlist for the car is all over the place- from Adele to Usher lol, so I can relate. Love this!

  2. Hi, I really like how you structured this blog instead of writing out the interview itself. Anna seems like a fun person to be around and her music taste is very cool, I love bob marley and i know a few people who used to listen to the back street boys all the time so this made me think about them.

  3. My mom is the one I interviewed, and she loved the Backstreet Boys as well! I also love that you decided to tell a story; that's a fun way to format this piece. I love that even her family remembered her playing the Backstreet Boys. That is a good way to put Bob Marley because he kind of reminds me of the beach as well. I had never heard this Bob Marley song either but it was very fun to listen to.

  4. Hey Abigail, I like the way you structured the blog. Bob Marley is one of my favorite artists as well. I love that it doesn't matter what generation the music is from if its good, people will still enjoy it. One of my favorite things to do is drive while listening to music, and Bob Marley is a great choice. The Back Street Boys are also iconic from their time making music.

  5. Hi! I really enjoyed reading your blog, especially with how you decided to write it as a story. I interviewed my dad and he didn't necessarily talk about it in the interview, but he also loves the Backstreet Boys and Bob Marley. They are super different from each other, but they both just have great music so it makes sense why so many love them. I thought it was cool that my dad liked the same artists as your family friend!

  6. I love that you chose to make your blog a story instead of a transcript. I wish that I had thought of that when posting my own blog. "I Want It That Way" is also my favorite song from The Backstreet Boys. I also love that no matter how "old" the music is, she doesn't let that change whether it's her favorite or not.

  7. I totally understand Anna. My music taste varies so much too. I love Bob Marley and I like to put his songs on to feel those ~beachy vibes~ as well. The Backstreet Boys are definitely iconic, but I never understood the hype. Probably because I wasn't around in that era lol.
