Music and Tradition
Personally, I don't necessarily think I have any music traditions. Other than the annual Christmas music that comes from the same playlists every year, and the playlist of Hispanic party music that you'll find my cousins playing every weekend...there aren't really any songs or a type of music that I use as a part of a tradition. "Rituals", are something I don't use or associate with, but totally understanding of those who do use music in the practices.
Although I don't have traditions and don't do rituals, I do tend to have this habit of listening to soul music while I get ready for the day. In my first blog, I mention that I'm a huge listener of soul music! along with the blues, jazz, R&B and music of that sort. Music in this genre give me a very positive feeling even though it may be very melancholy; but I personally find comfort in the way the music is sung, and I love the aura the music gives off.
Starting with the traditional Christmas Music!
Silent Night, is such a beautifully produced piece. From the tune to the significance in its words; this is a song that I think most people in America listen to as well, especially when you see Christmas for its true purpose and not just the day of gifts. The song resonates with the holiday and is ultimately a traditional Christmas tune to celebrate the day.
Music Of Habit??
So as I said earlier, I don’t really have a traditional music personally, so here is some what of the type of music I listen to while I get ready for the day! Most of the time, even If i choose to try a new style, I always go back to this. I do listen to other music, but have been reallyyyyy loving the things I listen to now.
As for the traditional party music…
To some, this song may be familiar also! This has to be on almost every playlist to any of our family parties. There will not be one event where someone doesn’t turn this on, and has the time of their lives. I don’t like this song anymore, I personally think it is tremendously overplayed in my family, but it’s considered one of their traditional songs I guess. It makes them happy and ultimately gets the night started; who am I to ruin their fun!…
Hey Abigail! I don't do rituals either, and when I did celebrate Christmas, Silent Night was one of my favorites to listen to during the holiday😛. Nothing Can Change This Love is a very good song, and I love that this is your go-to when you are doing anything. On the other hand, R&B is my go-to!☺️ Los Tigres Del Norte seems like a very good party song to sit around and chat with family and eat food! I do understand the overplayed part because there are songs that my family overplays too LOLL!
ReplyDeleteI love that you still consider La Puerta Negra a traditional song even though you do not enjoy the song as much as you used to. I also realize that a lot of people are talking about Christmas music as part of traditional music because it is something so mainstream that everyone has heard it at one point in their lives.
